The 11th Day of the 11th Month of the 11th Hour - Lest We Forget
Updated: Nov 10, 2020
On the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour take a moment to remember the fallen.
The Crusaders honoured the fallen and veterans on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 during block two. Via a video feed in each classroom that began at 11:00, Crusaders watched as grade representatives of the Realm laid a poppy on the wreath in the Crusader Commons beside a remembrance display. This was followed by a reading of "In Flanders Fields" by Elisha Sears and concluded with Mr. Bjorkman leading the Realm in two minutes of silent remembrance. Collectively, and immediately following the ceremony in the Crusader Common, Crusader teachers and students connected via Google Meets to view a video presentation created by Miss Norton, Mrs. Oracheski and their grade 12 Social Studies classes. Click on this link at the bottom of this blog to view the presentation - it is a wonderful overview of Canada's commitment to the world and highlights our involvement in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and Canada's peacekeeping efforts around the world.
Special thanks to the Crusaders who represented their classes for the poppy ceremony:
Grade 7 - Jemimah Ashaolu, Grade 8 - Halle Moroziuk, Grade 9 - Konnor Poitras, Grade 10 - Elisha Sears, Grade 11 (Royal Canadian Cadets #2395) - Vidit Patel, Grade 12 Rachel Zacharuk, and Staff - Mr. Bjorkman
The Realm would also like to extend a huge thank you to the PPCLI (Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry) Museum and Archives for donating 6 storyboards and sharing a brief history of the regiment. We also extend thanks to Mr. Holland-Hughes for contacting them and making this donation possible.
Finally, thanks to Mr. Rohan for coordinating the technical side of the live stream today, Miss Kryzanowski for taking photos for yearbook, the Crusader poppy bearers, and Mrs. Bjorkman for arranging the poppy ceremony.
