Every Child Matters - Behind the Orange Shirt
Monday, September 30, 2019, is Orange Shirt day, and the Crusaders join in remembering the lives of children who attended residential schools. We encourage all our staff and students to colour the Realm ORANGE on the 30th and take a moment to stop by our display in our Common Area to view the timeline. To learn more about Orange Shirt Day, view the video below. You can also visit http://www.orangeshirtday.org/ to hear more about the stories and history of residential schools.
NOTE: September 30 is also our Icon Experience by Lifetouch picture day! Commemorate the day by wearing your orange shirt for pictures, or bring it with you to change into after your photo has been taken!

Our Learning Commons does house Aboriginal history, including residential school stories, and highlighting indigenous folktales, poetry, cooking and more. Just stop by the Learning Commons.
We would also like to share with you the link to "The Secret Path" video on YouTube, which was aired on CBC and made available through CBC Arts. It is the animation of the book by Gord Downie and features his poetry/songs accompanied by the graphics of Jeff Lemire. The story is followed by a panel discussion to begin the conversation about reconciliation. The animation is approximately 60 minutes and begins after a short introduction of Chanie Wenjack, a 12 year old boy who ran away from a residential school only to perish on the secret path.
