Treaty 6 Land Acknowledgement and Commemorative Hide Placement

On October 1, 2018, Crusaders joined our Frog Lake/Kehewin First Nations Communities Advocate/FNMI Co-ordinator, Mrs. Rhonda Cardinal; Kehewin Elder, Mr. Eugene Cardinal; Gene Cardinal - drummer (former Crusader and Mr. Cardinal's son); and Mr. Cardinal's grandson, Shaun Dean (drummer).

Mr. Bjorkman, our principal, gave a brief history of Treaty 6 and introduced Elder, Mr. Eugene Cardinal of Kehewin First Nations. Mr. Cardinal shared some of his stories and told us why we acknowledging Treaty 6 Land. The hide, decorated by a SPERD division artist and stretched by Mrs. Bristow (Central Office), was then smudged and a song was sung and drummed. The acknowledgement ended with the hide being placed at our entrance for all to see and admire.

Special thanks to Mrs. Cardinal for organizing the event, Elder Cardinal for his words of wisdom and song and to the amazing artist who created the hide graphics.

We held our Orange Shirt Day on October 2, 2018, due to our school photos being held the day before. Pictured are just a few of our Crusaders in their shirts!
