Fabulous Firsts, Sweet Seconds and Team Building

This sports blog is long overdue! A huge congratulations to the junior high Crusaders who played with the St. Paul Bengals! Chayse Pankiw, Joey Cardinal, Sam Rogal, Odin Smith and Daniel Cardinal helped the team bring home the Alberta Football Tier II Bantam Provincial Championship taking down the Lacombe Raiders 27-9 in St. Paul. It is the first time in the St. Paul team has won a provincial final. Offensive line coach, Mr. Krys is very proud of our boys as well as the team as a whole. Our congratulations to Odin Smith and Daniel Cardinal who tied for Best Offensive Lineman Award and Charlie Rogal for the "Most Heart" Award.

Lions also had Crusaders in their midst. Their season ended with a game against the Lloydminster Barons. Ty Smereka, Hank Rogal and Sam Henderson moved up from the Bengals and were part of the 50% of the team in Grade 10. It's certainly was a building year for the team, and we look forward to seeing them on the field at Spring Camp.

Our volleyball teams saw success coming to both our boys' teams with both teams bringing home sweet silvers and a building year for the junior girls. A lack of interest found us without a senior girls team. The junior boys placed second at SPAA against Racette this year and we are so very proud of them and their coaches. The senior boys placed second at SPAA against Regional and 2nd at Zones against J. R. Robson.

Our team was strong and the group was close-knit resulting in tremendous showings throughout the year. Our junior girls had a building year and the girls learned a great deal about the game and sportsmanship.

Basketball season has begun and we started the season with our senior teams participating in the Regional Tournament. The girls took second place and the boys were the consolation winners (lost their first game and won all other games played). They placed 5th in the tournament.
A big thanks to our athletic director, Mr. Randall, for all his hard work throughout the volleyball season and to all our coaches. A tremendous amount of time is spent so that our Crusaders can make memories on the court. The teams would not have had the great year that they did without these dedicated coaches and parents.
